On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, Hudson Area Schools will ask community members to vote on whether to renew its non-homestead operating millage. School officials stress that this is a renewal request, not a new tax, and represents a zero-tax rate increase for residential homeowners. The millage applies strictly to non-homestead properties, which include local businesses, commercial buildings, rental properties, and second homes. Primary residences (homesteads) are entirely exempt, meaning homeowners will see no change in their property taxes.
If approved by the voters, the proposal would maintain the statutory rate of not to exceed 18 mills, a standard state requirement for the district to secure its full revenue per-pupil foundation allowance from the State of Michigan. This funding accounts for approximately $1,200,000 annually—about 6.2% of the district's total general fund operating budget. Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at regular local polling locations.
The community is invited to attend upcoming informational sessions with Hudson Area Schools Superintendent Tom Durbin and CFO Jackie Bowen. The events will be held:
Friday, July 24th - 8:30 to 10 a.m. at Main Street Perk (Coffee Hour) - this was previously scheduled for July 16th
Thursday, July 30: 4:30 to 6 p.m. at CSI
