Dear Hudson Families,
The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. We know that recent national events have raised concerns for parents and communities across the country. We want to assure you that Hudson Area Schools has made significant investments in safety and security, and we continue to take proactive steps to protect your children every day.
School Resource Officers & Adult Supervision
• One full-time officer assigned through the Hudson Police Department.
• One full-time officer hired directly by Hudson Area Schools, working alongside the Hudson Police Officer to provide daily coverage and visible presence.
• Ongoing direct communication with Hudson Police. Hudson Police are fully involved in our safety planning and communicate with the district on a regular basis.
• Staff and School Resource Officers are present at recess, arrival, dismissal, and during outdoor activities to maintain safety.
Video Surveillance
• A growing network of interior and exterior security cameras across all district buildings. There are currently 176 cameras across the district.
• Each building has a secure location where staff can actively monitor cameras.
• All district buses are equipped with interior and exterior cameras and include multiple views.
Safety Drills and Training
Students and staff regularly participate in required emergency drills and training including:
• Fire, Tornado, Lockdown, and Evacuation drills
• ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) training. Most recent training was completed August of 2025 and included “active scenarios and local law enforcement.
Staff also receive training in CPR and First Aid.
• Threat assessment teams trained through the Michigan State Police (BTAM – Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management).
• Administrative training using CSTAG – a nationally recognized, evidence-based process for assessing potential threats.
Emergency Management System
• The RAPTOR Emergency Management System is in place to manage drills and real incidents.
• This system coordinates communication among staff and first responders and assists with reunification procedures in the event of an emergency.
Exterior Building Security
• Each building has a single main entrance for visitors. Each main entrance includes a foyer with a second locked entrance that requires visitors to be permitted to enter the main building.
• All other doors remain locked during the school day.
• A keyless entry system helps us monitor and control who enters our schools.
Preparedness and Collaboration
• Hudson Area Schools maintains a comprehensive Emergency Operations Plan, reviewed regularly and aligned with county-wide emergency resources.
• Ongoing collaboration with local, county, and state law enforcement and emergency management teams.
While no safety plan can anticipate every situation, we are confident that our layered approach, combining trained personnel, technology, strong procedures, and community partnerships helps create the safest possible learning environment for our students.
We know you entrust us with your most precious gift every day. That trust drives us to plan carefully, train consistently, and partner broadly so that your children are safe and supported in Hudson Area Schools. If you have questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me or your student’s principal.
Sincerely,
Dr. Michael J. Osborne, Superintendent

Mrs. Mansfield's 1st grade classroom took initiative to be leaders outside of the classroom when they asked if they could pick up garbage around the school. They spent time this afternoon cleaning up around the front of the elementary school and behind the high school.

🌟 Ms. Patrick’s 5th Grade Scientists at Work! 🌟
Our 5th-grade scientists have been diving deep into the study of Matter! 🧪✨ Students explored solids, liquids, and gases by creating clay models that show how particles are arranged in each state of matter. They also built candy compounds 🍬 to demonstrate how matter is made up of elements that combine to form molecules.
Through hands-on learning, creativity, and curiosity, these young scientists are truly bringing science to life! 🔬💡 We are so proud of their hard work and for starting the school year off strong!

We would like to introduce our school wide School Resource Officer (SRO), Officer Doug Pope!
🔑 Key Aspects of an SRO's Role
📍Security and Safety:
An SRO ensures a safe and secure environment for students and staff, acting as the first line of defense and possessing the power to make arrests.
📍Mentorship and Counseling:
SROs serve as positive role models and mentors for students, interacting with them to build trust and offer guidance.
📍Law Enforcement:
They are fully trained police officers with the authority to enforce laws, respond to incidents, and investigate crimes on school grounds.
📍Education and Outreach:
SROs often educate students and staff on safety matters, conduct security programs, and promote a positive culture of respect and security within the school.
📍Collaboration:
They work closely with school staff and administrators to develop and implement safety protocols and to create a collaborative approach to school safety.
Welcome, Officer Pope! We are excited to have you in our buildings this school year!
